MGM Resorts and BetMGM Commit $320,000 to Responsible Gaming Research and Partnerships

21 September 2026

MGM Resorts International and its online partner BetMGM have announced a combined $320,000 contribution to responsible gaming initiatives as part of Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM) in September.

The gaming giants are making a targeted push to prevent problem gambling, funding research, supporting advocacy groups, and expanding their in-house education and training programs. It's a strategic move that underscores how major operators are increasingly pairing their corporate social responsibility efforts with specific gambling harm reduction efforts.

MGM Resorts and BetMGM Break Down the $320,000 Commitment

According to the companies, the $320,000 commitment will be allocated as follows:

  • Research funding through the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG)
  • Expanded sponsorships for state problem gambling councils
  • Support for the 1-800-GAMBLER national helpline
  • A donation to the Evive Foundation, which promotes transparency and research in gambling

This funding joins a broader push by the companies to promote responsible gaming. For instance, they have expanded their GameSense messaging in NFL stadiums, MLB ballparks, Las Vegas NHL and WNBA arenas. Over 3,000 employees have been certified through their GameSense Advisor program, which now extends to more than 45 company departments.

MGM Resorts and BetMGM are also ramping up their responsible gaming messaging across digital platforms, retail sportsbooks, the MGM Grand Live Dealer studio, and through targeted emails, guest surveys, and social media campaigns.

Sands China: More Than a Decade of Responsible Gaming Philanthropy in Macao

The announcement from MGM Resorts and BetMGM is not an isolated move. Gaming operators are increasingly directing their philanthropic efforts toward preventing and mitigating gambling harm.

In April, Sands China donated MOP 1 million to five local non-governmental organizations in Macao to support responsible gaming. The cumulative contribution from Sands China for responsible gaming since 2006 has reached nearly MOP 10 million.

The funds are helping to finance a wide range of community activities such as parent-child financial management programs, workshops, training sessions, and short film production. Combined with Sands China's long tradition of annual donations to social service organizations, it underscores the casino operator's commitment to integrating responsible gaming with their corporate social responsibility.

Looking Ahead: Responsible Gaming as a Corporate Social Responsibility Priority

The donations from MGM Resorts, BetMGM, and Sands China are notable not just for their value, but for their focus. By specifically targeting gambling harm reduction through their corporate giving, the operators are sending a clear signal that responsible gaming is not just an operational issue, but a core part of their social responsibility.

It's a smart strategy. As gambling continues to expand, often into communities that are new to its risks, education and prevention will be key. By embedding their harm reduction efforts in CSR frameworks, operators stand to build goodwill while addressing regulatory concerns.

Moreover, it matters who funds responsible gaming initiatives. Having leading operators invest in research, support helplines, and fund awareness campaigns sends a powerful message.

These donations might signal the start of a broader trend. They also serve as a reminder that responsible gaming is increasingly a global concern. As regulators manage the growth of online and offline gambling, they'll need to watch as operators use their resources to position themselves as responsible industry stewards.
